Sink, Float, Make a Boat
May 20 & June 9, 2009
In this science exploration students will make predictions about objects and test them to see if they sink or float. They will use a chart to record their observations. Next, they will use a variety of objects to construct a boat.
This science exploration is designed using the following MA Dept. of Ed. Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences:
Inquiry #1
-Ask and seek out answers to questions about objects and events will the assistance of interested adults.
Inquiry #2
-Make predictions about changes in materials or objects based on past experience.
Inquiry #4
-Record observations and share ideas through simple forms of representation such as drawings.
Physical Sciences #18
Manipulate a wide variety of familiar and unfamiliar objects to observe, describe, and compare their properties using appropriate language.
Technology and Engineering #23
Explore and describe a wide variety of natural and human made through sensory experiences.

Planting Bean Seeds
April 29,2009
After enjoying the read aloud book Jack’s Garden, students will observe seeds and soil using a hand lens. Next they will plant their seeds in a peat pot. Following this they will record their observations in a Bean Plant Journal. Students will take their planted pot, journal and hand lens home to continue to observe and record the life cycle of the bean plant.

-Observe and describe plants, insects and animals as they go through predictable life cycles.

-Listen to a wide variety of age appropriate literature read aloud.
